Things to do
We are lucky to be living in an area where you can park the car when you arrive and then not have to use it again for the whole of your stay with us. We can put together things to do for you for seven days or more if you want us to and you would not need to use your car once! The list is never ending but just to tempt you we can suggest you take boat trips to Totnes, Dittisham, Stoke Gabriel, Torquay, Sharpham for wine and cheese, and Salcombe (some being tide and day dependent), you walk the South West Coast Path in either direction either to Brixham or to Slapton or walk up the river Dart as far as Totnes, taking a picnic lunch and stopping at that secret cove or exploring a sandy beach, go swimming (for the brave) and just taking in the magnificent views. You can hire a motor boat and explore the River Dart. You can slip over to Dartmouth on the ferry to explore and shop or walk out to the Castle. Or maybe even take a fishing trip out to the Skerries to catch Plaice or Pollock.
If you want to be really organised and book things to do in advance (and you will have to book) you can take a cookery class at Manna from Devon, spend a day at our local spa and have a massage or attend a local gardening session at one of the two National Trust Properties nearby – Coleton Fishacre and Greenway. You can book sailing lessons, learn to paddleboard, book a canoe for as long as you are able to paddle, or motor up the River Dart and explore all the hidden nooks and crannies,
With a Car
If you want to go further afield and take the car there are some outstanding walks on Dartmoor. You can learn to fish above Totnes. You can take a riding lesson. You can visit the beautiful gardens in Devon and Cornwall – Fast Rabbit Farm the other side of Dartmouth, Overbecks near Salcombe, Rosemoor in North Devon, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall for example and whether you want a full day’s walk or a short stroll we can provide you with lots of ideas and maps and be there to welcome you back in time for a delicious home made tea
If you are using your car Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Totnes offer good shopping and the towns of Plymouth and Exeter are about an hour’s drive away. You can drive to Riverford Farm – the home of organic food production – and take a tour and have lunch. You can visit the Devon Guild of Craftsmen at Bovey Tracey or the lovely shops at Dartington.
